Philippe Vranjes AMPLIFIED
Opening: Wednesday 14 August, 6-8pm Dates: 14-31 August 2013‘AMPLIFIED’ furthers an ongoing investigation of the subject of expansion. Expansion calls instantaneously for dissemination, space, acceleration, transformation and change and this exhibition explores the vocabularies of qualities, the methodologies, the techniques and even the colours that permeate the three-dimensional object and the image with movement and articulate a doing in its form. Notions of contact, noise, amplification, emergence, leaky optics, interference and discord sign the context of the exhibition.
Philippe Vranjes works across painting, sculpture and photography. Expansion, transformation and change are recurring themes across his practice. Vranjes’ work makes use of different vocabularies of vision, light and traditions to create relationships with a range of varied sources and contexts. His disparate body of work which encompasses traditional, poetical, abstract and futuristic manifestations presents itself as a long visual sentence of crisis after crisis, adventure after adventure and incident after incident and enables the artist to affirm, in the context of the exhibition, the possibility of a body that is plural, multiple, open and generative; a body in forward motion, anchored in traditions and histories that cannot be reduced nor subjugated by a given hierarchy; a body in movement and expansion and which lives in intensity.
Philippe graduated from a Master of Fine Arts, Monash University, 2011. Recent solo and joint exhibitions include ‘AMPLIFIED’, Trocadero Art Space, 2012; ‘AMPLIFIED’, Monash University Masters Gallery, 2011 and ‘GREATER THAN ONE’, curated by Alicia Renew, MADA, 2010. Philippe is currently a finalist in the HOBART ART PRIZE, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. His works were previously selected for the SUBSTATION ART PRIZE, The Substation, 2011 and the REDLANDS WESTPAC ART PRIZE (emerging artist category), 2010.
