Arlo Mountford Arbitrary Interrupt

Opening: Tuesday 11 November, 6-8pm Dates: 11-29 November 2003

‘Arbitrary Interrupt’ mixed media/sound installation.

“Arlo works primarily with large-scale interactive installations paired with sound, video and animation. His humorous and often sardonic approach explores art history and the contextual relationship between contemporary art practice and its perceived past. Recently Arlo has completed a number of animations in which characters re-interpret art historical events, works and ideas in an attempt to decipher their own environments, situations and even their existence.

Arlo Mountford is a Melbourne based artist, who has exhibited regularly since finishing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2002. Arlo has been included in numerous group exhibitions including SUB12, Substation Newport (2014), Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria: Australia (2013), The Social Life of Things, Faculty Gallery Monash University (2012), Unguided Tours, Anne Landa Award, Art Gallery of NSW (2011), 21st Century: Art in the First Decade, QAG (2011), New Acquisitions in Context, MCA (2011), NEW010, ACCA (2010), ShContemporary: Best of Discovery Asia Pacific Contemporary Art Fair, Shanghai (2008), Contemporary Australia: Optimism, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (2008), Heide Museum of Modern Art (2008) and Adelaide Biennial (2006).

Arlo’s most recent solo exhibitions have been at Bus Projects, Melbourne (2015), Sutton Gallery (2014), Sutton Project Space, Melbourne (2013), La Trobe University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2011), Shepparton Regional Gallery (2010), Centre of Contemporary Photography (2009), The Art Centre Chulalongkorn University Bangkok, Thailand (2009), Conical (2008) and Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces (2007).

This year Arlo has completed two works as a major commission for the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
