Paul Williams I HELL TODAY

Opening: Wednesday 18 March, 6-8pm Dates: 18 March – 4 April 2015

‘I HELL TODAY’ is an installation of painting and ceramics exploring studio moods, sculptural conundrums and ritualistic processes of building, destruction and renewal. A ceramic tower elaborately ‘repaired’ with unfired clay and cryptic slogans painted on worn out sheets are suggestive of an end of day’s bolt-hold or simply an artist dealing with the anxieties of his chosen medium as he marks out his own flailing frontier.

Paul Williams (b. 1977) lives and works in Sydney. Solo exhibitions include MOP Projects, Firstdraft and Kudos Gallery as well as at Gallery 9, The Hughes Gallery and Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. Williams has undertaken residencies at Hill End, ILIRI Fowlers Gap Research Station, The Bundanon Trust, BigCi, Ceramic Design Studio (Sydney Institute) and the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris. He has several works in Artbank’s collection and in private collections around Australia and was the recipient of a New Work Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts in 2014. Paul was a co-director of Firstdraft 2012-2013.
