In Conversation: Pip Wallis, Nicholas Smith and Jacqui Shelton

Dates: Tuesday 18th December, 6.30pm

Bus Projects is pleased to invite you to join artists Jacqui Shelton and Nicholas Smith in conversation with curator Pip Wallis as they discuss their current exhibitions at Bus Projects “Images are struggling in the corners of this room” and “Cooled pride, roused ardour”.

Pip Wallis is Curator of Contemporary Art, at NGV. She was previously Managing Editor at X-TRA Contemporary Art Quarterly Los Angeles; Curator in Residence at Chisenhale Gallery London; and Curator at Gertrude Contemporary.

Jacqui Shelton is an artist working in Melbourne, and a current PhD candidate at MADA, Monash University. Her practice manifests across performance, film-making, writing, photography, reading, and drawing. Working with processes of embodiment, storytelling, documentation and vocal action, each work produces a set of temporary relations between people, sites, or histories, that are then pushed to a limit and examined for intimacies and conflicts that develop.

Nicholas Smith is an artist working in Narrm, Melbourne. He graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in 2013. Recent shows include: I am crying, Firstdraft, 2017; Swaddle me, West Space, 2017;Forget-me-not, Recess, 2017; Feint Understanding, Tcb Art Inc., 2016;searching for something, Mildura Palimpsest Biennale #10, 2015. He has recently held a residency at Frontyard Projects Inc. in Marrickville, Sydney, and a collaborative residency with Olivia Koh and Jimmy Nuttall at NextWave’s Brunswick Mechanics Institute. In 2019, he will be undertaking a ceramics residency at Kingston Arts.
