Jacqui Shelton LIMBER

Opening: Wednesday 5 November, 6-8pm Dates: 5-22 November 2014

In practice, leisure, interpersonal relationships and our friendship with ourselves, we constantly develop, fail, and succeed. It is our readiness for change and adaption that throughout evolution and our individual lives produces progress.

This work entails a collective practice of readiness and awareness. Often utilising physical action in my practice as a means of addressing greater external issues, I use it here as a literal preparation and development of the participatory group and myself.

This work involves daily stretch sessions that are open to the public. The gallery is set up with exercise mats that allow for floor stretches. Daily sessions will be held where anyone is invited to come join a communal stretch. Here, the physical activity of limbering up is presented in an artistic context as a practice of collective readiness and acceptance of potential change.

Jacqui is a Melbourne based artist attempting to improve her adaptive skills. She was recently included in Moving Pictures/Expanding Space at CareOf in Milan and Experimental Congress at Gertrude Contemporary, as well as recent solo shows at Westspace, Screen Space and Platform Contemporary. She recently completed a Masterclass in Sound Art at the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture and is hoping to become a better listener.

The Australian Artists’ Grant is a National Association for the Visual Arts initiative, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Mrs Janet Holmes à Court and the support of the Visual Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts.
