Laila Marie Costa Lure-Land

Opening: Tuesday 22 February, 6-8pm Dates: 22 February-12 March 2005

Laila Marie Costa’s creative practice is imbued with the concepts of consumer culture, mass production, and environmentalism. She obsessively collects the discards of life, the recyclable and the detritus, and uses this source material to produce jewellery, collage and assemblages that explores the line between fine art and craft.

Laila is currently expanding her RUN LMC collection focusing on detailed necklaces and earrings made using silver, collected plastic and guitar ball ends. The reels and guides that are the basis of the collection were mined from the internal components of band ‘demo’ cassette tapes salvaged from an iconic Melbourne live music venue.

In August 2016, she will exhibit Random acts of Necklace as part of the Craft Cubed event. The collection of necklaces made from collected materials that are inspired buy the formal qualities of the materials.

She has a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) from RMIT and a Graduate Diploma from VCA. As well as her studio practice, she works as a sessional teacher in Design at Swinburne TAFE and program curator and workshop coordinator in community arts. Her work is currently available at Studio Ingot, Melbourne, and her online shop will be established shortly.
