Opening: Wednesday 1 August, 7-10.30pm Dates: 1-5 August 2012

BUS Projects presents new work by emerging artist Marcin Wojcik at Melbourne Art Fair 2012.

BUS Projects is thrilled to present new work by Marcin Wojcik in their Melbourne Art Fair 2012 Project Room as part of Melbourne Art Fair 2012 and sponsored by the Melbourne Art Foundation. BUS Projects is an independent contemporary arts initiative that promotes the experimental fields of performance, sound art and spatial practice.

Wojcik’s multi-disciplinary practice combines sculpture, performance and installation and is underpinned by a continued exploration of the performance of identity. Wojcik’s installations employ theatrical devices such as props, sets, scenes and backdrops to draw viewers into the world of his assumed ‘persona’. In this new body of work, Wojcik will create two distinct environments based upon the leisure activities of cycling and climbing.

This project is linked to Method, an exhibition bringing together the work of Chris Bond and Marcin Wojcik presented concurrently at BUS Projects. Showing in Gallery 1 from 17 July – 4 August, Method explores the use of fictional strategies within the artists’ respective practices.

Marcin Wojcik completed his Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in Sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2010 and has already achieved a high level of professional success, including group exhibitions such as Bellowing Echoes at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, 2012; Hidden Definition at Sutton Project Space, 2011; Cashmere if you Can at Seventh Gallery, 2011; a solo exhibition SCENE: CREVASSE at BUS Projects, July 2011; and a residency at The Art Vault in Mildura with Drew Pettifer, August 2011. Wojcik was also the recipient of the David Teleskivi Memorial Sculpture Prize in 2009. In 2012, Wojcik is being mentored by Laresa Kosloff through JUMP, the Australia Council’s national mentoring program for young and emerging artists. In Victoria, JUMP is delivered by Melbourne Fringe.

This exhibition has been kindly sponsored by the Melbourne Art Foundation.
