Grace Wood Moving On/Up

Opening: Wednesday 29 April, 6-8pm Dates: 29 April – 16 May 2015

‘Moving On/Up’ dissects, re-imagines and recreates elements from old photographs in a new way – colour and texture, scale and shape are altered and transformed. The gallery space becomes a site for scrutiny of the perceived realities of the photograph, and the way they are bound to change according to the motifs of memory and time. Artist Grace Wood works within a photographically-based spatial practice that focuses on the relationship between image and reality. Her photographs are tested through engagement with colour darkroom processes, and the way these processes translate into contemporary modes for understanding conceptual photography. Wood’s visual outcome is photographic collage and sculptural installation, while her writing focuses on theories of Heterotopia and Simulacra relating to contemporary photographic practice.

Wood is an artist living and working in Melbourne. She recently completed her Honours in Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2014. In 2014, she exhibited in ‘Blue Moves’ at Seventh Gallery, ‘VCA Graduate Exhibition’ at Margaret Lawrence Gallery, ‘From the window to the wall’ at Fort Delta, ‘Artists Books Reprised’ at George Paton Gallery, ‘Hatched’ 2014 at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), and ‘re/work; Rebuilding aesthetic form’ at Kings ARI.
