Simon Attwooll Sticky Plaster In The Gene Pool

Opening: Wednesday 6 April, 6-8pm Dates: 6 – 23 April 2016

The photographs I have been collecting recently are of samples taken under the microscope. I am thinking about how these images are representational of real objects but appear abstract from this perspective.

I am thinking of the halftone dot as an optical artifact. This caveman technology is how we used to break down an image in order to make multiples and share pre-digital. Like reproducing cells we can reproduce and make multiple images when they are broken down into this form.

I am interested in looking back at old image making technologies to identify what may be lost in new technologies and how they change the way we view images.

I utilise screen-printing to investigate how found photography can be repurposed into a new idea. My recognizable aesthetic embraces the accidental to create temporal collisions that encourage us to re-examine our relationship to the photographic image. Recent solo shows include When God And Lucifer Carpool, Fort Delta, Melbourne (2015), as well as I Heard That 85% of Accidents Happen Around The Home. So I Moved, The Young, Wellington, New Zealand (2015).
