Kieran Boland When you’re in love with a beautiful woman

Opening: Tuesday 29 November, 6-8pm Dates: 29 November-17 December 2011

The two videos that comprise this exhibition reflect an interest in self-documented performance that early video art shares with YouTube. The ‘live’ one-take duration and interplay of dialogue within the work however is an illusion. The use of compositing, altered frame rates along with an unlikely combination of visual and aural sources are more often associated with animation. ‘Senora…Senora…Senora…’ features a trio of floral shirted men performing a chipmunk lip-synch to a song from the movie Flashdance. In Grey Highlights (for Christine) a New Zealand golden oldies radio station makes contact with Christine, the spirit of the car from the John Carpenter film (based on the Stephen King novel) via a séance.

Kieran Boland completed an MFA at Monash University in February 2011. Within the year he has shown his videos at Loop Barcelona, Monash Faculty Gallery, RMIT Project Space and Melbourne Propaganda Windows.

Kieran Boland’s work is presented as part of a curated program for BUS Projects’ Screen Space by Kim Brockett.
